Cabarete

Accomodation

Where to Stay?

I liked Cabarete so much, I bought an apartment there!
Actually, its not quite as simple as that. I decided about six years ago that I had to either stick a load of extra money in to my pension scheme to get it up to the level that was initially projected and still not be able to retire until I was 65 yrs old at the earliest, or forget pension and stick that money in to another investment... property. I spent the first three years researching while I saved enough to put money in and to be in a position where I could afford the mortgage without relying upon rental income... ...but rental income is nice! So if you are visiting Cabarete and want a nice, three bedroom apartment, with free wi-fi*, that is easy walking distance to the centre of Cabarete and is beach side of the main road, please drop me an e-mail. Because I'm only looking to cover my costs, I'm offering my apartment for almost the same as the minimum normally charged for a two bedroom. Long term rental would be particularly welcome, again for a similar price as is normally charged for a two bedroom. *At the Jan 2009 home owners meeting, a decision was taken to charge renters $20 to access the internet. I strongly opposed this but was out voted. As a result, I've decided that I will pay this for people who rent through me (notice my prices didn't go up to absorb this!) I'm only aware of one other owner who is absorbing this charge, so please be aware if you book directly through the management company there, or other owners, there may be a 'hidden charge'.

But what if an apartment at Royal Residence is not what you are looking for?

During something like 14 trips to Cabarete in the last four years, I've not always been able to stay in my apartment, not least because some of the trips were while it was being built. So, these are the places I have stayed in... (None of these recommendations have been paid for).

Hotel Alegria

I stayed here in January '09 because I had people renting my apartment at the time. The 'home owners' meeting having been called at 'peak season'. The Hotel Alegria may not be the most modern hotel in Cabarete but it more than makes up for that in friendliness. From the second I stepped out of the cab and was greated with 'Hi, you must be Keith...' I felt like part of the family. In fact, three other travellers were invited in to the owners apartment to watch the inaugaration of President Obama on their 'big TV'... that's the kind of place it is. If I can't stay in my own place in the future, I'll stay here. And when I am staying in my own place, I will definately visit here to eat because the food is great (see restaurant reviews).

Cita del Sol

is dead centre of Cabarete, and its location is what makes this place a good spot to stay, especially if you are there to party. Quite literally, you cross the road and you are by the bars. A one bedroom apartment will be about $55 per night and the rooms are getting on a bit. My aircon made noises like it was trying to cool the place down but it never actually achieved a great deal. If you are a solo traveler or a couple, it is possibly worth it but the location can work against it if you don't actually want to be that central. I'll add details of other places as time goes on
