worked out if it is a bar or a restaurant. As a bar it is a little bit
pricey compaired to some other places, as a restaurant, it feels too
much like a bar. If that sounds negative... perhaps it shouldn't,
because it is actually one of the first places I go to when I hit
Cabarete.So let's make it easier and say that it is a bar that does excellent food, has by far the best toilets on the entire beach and from what I've seen, the cleanest kitchen too. It has a cool ambiance, and inside, could easily be a romantic evening. The food is excellent quality so does it matter if the prices are a bit higher than some other places (and still usually not as much as O'Shay's)? And anyway, you could always eat during the 'happy hour' (sic) from 2pm to 6pm. Half price beer, pizza or pasta suddenly makes Casanova even more attractive. And they do do an excellent selection of pasta. The pizza is fine, but the pasta is special! This last trip I had a chicken & mushroom in cream sauce as well as the crab & shrimp dish, both at half price. On other occasions I've eaten a real selection and never once been disappointed. Even in the evening, when you pay full price, it is still food that is close to restaurant quality but not at restaurant prices and with the gentle music playing, and the burner flaming away it's a great spot to sit back and enjoy. The staff are friendly so all together, yes, I like this place, even if the bill may be a little heavier than most places by the end of the night, it is still somewhere I'm drawn back to. And perhaps I have just worked out what Casanova really is, it's a bar for grown ups... Perhaps Casanova knew that all along? January 2011. Casanova was closed for much of the time that I was there. I'm not sure if that is simply because it was a quiet time or what. Either way, I didn't even manage a drink there during that trip. Non-beach places review menu below. Some images required.
