CabareteBars & RestaurantsLax It's almost typical of the the ambiance in Lax that it has quietly, gently, unassumingly snuck up on me, until this trip, when I realized that it had firmly established itself as my favorite bar on Cabarete beach. I've had other bars where I have spent more time in on previous trips but in almost all of them I've had varied service or food. Lax has consistently provided me with what it set out to do, good food, friendly staff and a chilled out, relaxed atmosphere. For sure, it can be bouncing at night, especially Friday & Saturdays or public holidays... It can be lively! ...but for the most part sink down in to the soft cushions, stretch back and let the world get on with doing what ever the world has to do, while you sip your favorite drink, listening to the cool tunes. 
For the review (Jan 08). I took someone who'd just arrived in Cabarete the evening before, for her first visit to one of the beach bars, so naturally enough, Lax was first choice. The later part of the evening turned into a bit of an alcohol induced blur [note to self: just because you were with one, you can't drink like an 18 year old anymore... well, you CAN, but it takes a lot longer to recover...] We opted for the 'happy hour' pizza's, buy one, get one free. I'd have perhaps liked mine to have been slightly more spicy but it was good anyway. The newbies opinion of the ham & pineapple one was complimentary too. The pizza's are a traditional style, thin crispy crust, not much cheese but loaded with whatever you ordered. With a couple of rounds of drinks the tab was still below RD$700. In short, it's somewhere you should visit early on in your vacation so you can return regularly. Note: Two for One Pizza deal is not on anymore. There are other 'happy hours' though.
