Stimmo resigns at Garstang FC :
In a surprise development, Garstang Football Club have announced the resignation of Manager Barrie Stimpson after 15 months in charge. Stimmo, who was in the process of rebuilding his team at the start of the new season, had found it difficult combining an increasing workload in his daily job with the commitment required to manage an ambitious club like Garstang.
Stimmo said, in a meeting with the Chairman on Thursday night, that he recently had less time available for football and this was not fair to the players, the club management or the supporters and therefore thought it was the right decision to step down and make way for someone who had the time and commitment that Garstang deserves.
Stimpson joined Garstang FC in June last year; the highlights of his season, taking the Club to the top of the league before Christmas and then on to the Final of the Lancashire Amateur Shield, losing 4-3 in extra time to Blackpool Wren Rovers in what was a memorable night.
The Chairman, Adrian Wilding said, “This is obviously a disappointing turn of events when so many good things are happening around the Club, but we must be practical, respect Barrie’s decision and the reasoning behind it, and thank him for efforts in the time he spent with us. We will look to recruit a successor in due course and Assistant Manager Geoff Wilson will run team affairs for now. Geoff has the support of the senior players and can draw on an experienced 'back room' in the members of the Club Management Committee”.
