O/T Rhodes in August

Temperatures today low?30s but in August it can be in the lowz40s which talkingvto some locals isxtoo much even for them. Thankfully we are in an adult's only hotel so no screaming kids complaining about the heat etc

Looking forward to getting back to normal UK weather. We've both suffered from heat rash and have to jeepcoverwd up.

Its not just the heat, the humidity is unbearable for us North Europeans in July and August. I lived in Cyprus for a few years and that time of the year was a good time to come back and enjoy an English summer.

I agree. We've been to Cyprus and several Greek Islands over July and August and it's really not pleasant. As you say, it's the humidity! We tended to end up hiding in the apartment/hotel room with the air conditioning on full or going from shop to shop seeking out a nice cool one, typically small supermarkets had good air con! Thankfully, those days are over now we're no longer stuck with school holidays and we usually go May or September/October which are still very hot, but more bearable! A few times, we've been surprised to see no one around the pool, only to find out why when we went down, that the flooring tiles etc around the pool were red hot and too hot to walk on, so everyone decamped to the beach instead!

Returned to UK Liverpool on Thursday and Temp on leaving Rhodes pm was 36C. Talking to locals it can get to 45C and higher in August. Prediction for Lindos in August is 50C Too hot for us Brits. Fortunately we were based in Ixia which is cooler due to wind off the sea .

Can recommend a good 5?star hotel with swim up pools to bedrooms

Manchester isn't that bad, and getting better. Like everywhere where major works are in progress there will be disruptions and delays.

Went through Terminal 2 at Manchester early on Thursday morning, twas busy even at 0300, but we were in the bar by 0340 for a slurp, and at our distant gate for an 0605 fight to Faro in plenty of time.

Absolutely gorgeous here in Praia da Rocha btw.

Rhodes is onlg a small island, absolutely no need for any commercially biased guidebook

As for temperatures, well I'd never gave guessed.

Manchester isn't that bad, and getting better. Like everywhere where major works are in progress there will be disruptions and delays.

As a wheelchair user, it is appalling. I've literally been forgotten three times, twice in February at about 4:30am. The last time, I ended up with the Captain & co-pilot of my flight going and finding wheelchairs for me and another guy, and pushing us himself, after I staged a 'sit-in'. For reasons they won't explain, they refuse to bring personal chairs to the aircraft. I once saw them unload my chair and take it away to baggage reclaim, while I sat on the aircraft for another 45 minutes, waiting for their staff, with an airport wheelchair. I've flown through many large and small airports as a wheelchair user. Only Newark, New Jersey competes with Manchester as the worst possible. Gatwick & Heathrow are bigger, but better. Countries like Egypt are fine. Manchester is the pits. Oh, and complaints go unanswered.

We intentionally book holidays from Leeds/Bradford or Liverpool just to avoid the nightmare of Ringway.

Used both airports and found Liverpool to be far better organised than Leeds Bradford.

Manchester is a nightmare despite investment to improve things.

Check in at Liverpool with Jet2 was so easy and quick. No ques and plenty of Jet2 staff on hand if assistance was needed.

However the car parking at Liverpool does require a lengthy walk with no cover to protect form the elements. Leeds Bradford has plenty of car parks with one in particular close to the terminal but does provide transport which is appreciated.

Due to arthritis in both knees and now having to use a walking stick to get around( operations at Wrightington Hospital planned) I have found the assistance provided at both Liverpool and at Rhodes to have been excellent. Particularly at Rhodes were I was told by staff there to use a special lane to avoid the ques....much to the annoyance of other travelors having to que to get through both passport control and security.

I did get a few looks but that could have been down to the black lens sun glasses and Shrimps Baseball cap that i was wearing....and the private transport provided by the hotel to and from the airport

Do you have a 'Blue Badge'? Accessible parking at Liverpool couldn't be closer without it being on the runway!

Yes.....but wasn't aware of accessible parking at Liverpool. Booked last October before I got a Blue Badge.
