Spending 1d on that machine in the promenade train station that you could print out 20 characters of your choice on an aluminium strip.

Drinking underage in The Seahorse Bar. Where was that?

I am still of the opinion they should convert The Dome into something like this. Was sickening to see it like it is now when we walked round that area on Sunday evening.

Would make a blooming fortune I'm sure.

Anyone got Mr Paphitis' number ?

The helter-skelter on the little fairground.
Had to abort my maiden ride.
Got dizzy climbing the steps.
Got frit, and bottled-it.
Got dizzy doing the descent bum bumping it back down the steps

Our pub-crawl usually started in the Bath Hotel, then The Victoria, then the Palatine, then Swindell's chippy, then the Smugglers or New Inn, then the Broadway nightclub at the Wilton Lounge.
For a while (late 70s) there was an extra stop - the little bar that opened at the Lord Street corner of the Bowl (now Gala bingo).

Anyone remember its name?
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

I remember the little fairground behind the winter gardens , especially the one where you had to push balls into rotating clowns mouths! Or was that a dream?

That stumped everybody the last time this thread did the rounds.
If ever I made it that far east along the prom I'd have been talking to the fairies.
So I reckon it's a figment of someone's imagination.

Not a dream.
But the clowns heads went from side-to-side, like a group of Shrimps fans after a bad day at the office

Hi shrimper i think the name you are looking for is the beachcomber bar .The bowling alley stood on the spot that is now the gala bingo.I think the Macnulty brothers started up the bowling alley. They ran a business repairing slot machines in a shop next door to the York hotel ( the bar under the York was called The rat hole.)

And that part of the promenade which ran down to where the Gala Club now is (ie, from Lubins to the Gala) used to be such a wide road with parking on both sides.

Not as it is now with zebra crossings that strangers to the area don't seem to see / or just ignore.

Yes, it was actually a car park, for people who were shopping on Princes Crescent.
Where the Bow Window is now used to be Mulroy's Cafe..remember that?

I remember the name but can't remember it. My mum used to go for coffee and "curzel" cakes?
(she's nearly 75)
I still believe!

Incidentally, what's happened to Lubin's ???

Has it shut down for good now after all those long years of trading ??? Never see any sign of life in there, but I suppose the owners/proprietors would have been getting on in years a bit now.

Didn't see anything in The Vis about it shutting down if that is the case .....

It was Barry's Cafe in the 70's.

What about the fresh fish on Clarence Street? Often went there for a pint of rough shrimps and saved the rest of my dinner money! Walked back to school picking shrimps.

There were a couple of fairs and a couple of piers too.

Wasn't Ted's Grill on the corner of Albert Road, near the Clarendon (now their carpark)?

There may have been a 'Beachcomber' bar somewhere but the one I remember at the Bowling alley/Gala bingo was called Neptune's.

Dead right Shrimper. "Ted's Grill" was on the corner of Albert Road and "Blakey's Toy shop" was in between "Ted's Grill" and The Clarendon. Mr James Blakey sold his shop to Richard Lancaster when he retired.

"Ted's Grill" was run by the late Ted Blackburn and his son Roland run's the Fish and Chip shop next to The Palatine.
