I would have thought that the turf for the new ground would have been put down at hte latest just before the end of this summer to allow it to bed in. Therefore to put in the existing sprinkler system would involve some lifting of the turf next summer, surely far from ideal.
The new build could be undertaken around the turfed area which from recollection at other new stadium builds would be fenced off thereby not allowing all and sundry to have access to the new playing surface.

I seem to recall Northwich putting the turf down first...whichever way, I'm sure it will be part of the photographic history of the stadiums development.
