Transfer rumours

Postby redrobo » Sun May 04, 2025 1:13 pm

Might as well start a new thread as DA looks to rebuild his squad.

AFC top goalscorer Nick Haughton may want to move on after AFC got relegated. He scored 19 goals the season just ended so knows the league and is a regular goal scorer. Aged 30 he may look to move on and get a 2 year deal somewhere. He's out of contract as well.

Nick Haughtons wage way out of our league I'm afraid
Friend of mine at work who watches Fylde says he's on 3k a week

Just my humble opinion, I would rather pay a goalscorer £3K a week, than 3 other "strikers" £1K a week who don't score goals.

I think his "19" goals were in 23/24, depends which info is correct

Exactly......BUT it always amazes me when a claim about knowing a players weekly wage is made.

I find it difficult to accept that the player and his club would divulge such sensitive information as it could have an effect on other players in that squad who feel that they are worth a similar financial deal. Imagine the unrest it could have in a squad.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nick-ha ... ler/341889

3K a week for a proven goal scorer is possibly the going rate and could be well below the average AND let's not forget that we need a proven striker. If we had had one we would still be in the EFL.

It was 23-24 season he got 18 goals 43 league games. (+1in cup He got 12 in 23 league games 24-25.

He was more prolific in National League North with 26 goals in both the 21-22 & 22-23 seasons.

It’s a tough balancing act with wages. Houghton has been brill with AFC and will be snapped up but I’m not sure I would be paying that because football is such a gamble. You pay it, you bring him in, everyone’s on an high but then he gets nobbled and out for 6mths……you’re fooked! We’ve seen it many many times, more than a lot of clubs have and Dereks no fool, he knows this.

I agree, we seem to have been plagued by long term injuries over the past few years. We'd not have been relegated if we'd had Angol fit and playing regularly for the first half of the season. We've lost Ray for virtually the entire season. Then more latterly, we've lost McAdam and Hendry. In prior seasons, we've suffered the same. Remember that first season in L1 when Robinson brought in two expensive strikers who both went down with long term injuries in their first couple of weeks. As a poor club, we just can't afford an expensive striker as we can't afford a big squad to duplicate/triplicate positions in case of injuries. Derek has rightly gone for quantity over quality but even then, he could barely get to his preferred team of "22". If he'd paid for a marque striker, we may have been down to only 18 or 19 players and could well have found we couldn't even fill the bench with injuries/suspensions, etc. on numerous occasions. An "older" striker is a ridiculous gamble if they cost the same as 2/3/4 other players and are clearly at greater risk of injury or poor performance due to their age.

We weren’t paying Stockton £3k a week when we were in League One, and our budget has decreased year-on-year since then.

You always need back-ups, so it’s the differences between having a bench and not having a bench.

With some players out of contract from Sunday June 1....it might be that we start to hear news about new additions to DAs squad.

The week starting June 1 could well be a the dawn of a new beginning for our club.....certainly hope so as it's about time we had some good news to celebrate....together and not divided... :)

APOLOGY....I'm Wrong re Players Contracts. IT IS JUNE 30......

It is June 30th when the contracts expire , and if they don't sign for another club before August we have to pay them for July as well as a sort of month in lieu of notice payment.

Regan Linney, Altrincham to Carlisle United. Well it signals their intentions and must be paying him a bucket load to stay in NL

They are probably waiting for sale confirmation like the rest of us, while looking elsewhere :(

There's rumours going around that if Panjab take control they would like their own manager. (Now I hope it's just bollocks)
Would a new manager pull them offers away and bring players in himself?

Not saying its right or wrong Hodgie but when new owners take over at clubs they do sometimes bring in their own manager

Let's see what happens

I just hope that our new potential owner will listen to our current BoDs and give DA a chance to operate in the National League till at least the New Year. If by then DA has not provided the results needed then by all means they should look at a change.

I was under the impression that they didn't have much experience of football BUT maybe they have a consultant who they take guidance from... :?: :?: :?:

It's also possible that they have seen enough of our games on TV that they feel that the style of football DA plays is NOT what they want for THEIR club. Possibly more attack focused... :?: :?: :?:

Quite possible that IF and WHEN PWs take over they will want a new board as well as a new manager.

They aired their intentions by stating early on in the sale process that they will put 2 (of their people) on the BOD’s.
I thought at the time that is an indication of intent!, the questions arising from that is what changes would happen further down the echelons of the Club.
I think it would be prudent to use the knowledge & skills the Club have in running a club and have a period of transition rather than a type rushed overrun of existing staff or the way the Club is run !!

Once the takeover is complete I think we will get a quick view of the new owners intentions and weather rumours are right or not.

When you look at Panjab Warriors website they say they are going to use AI in how they run its sports, (seems we are the only ones??) well we will see how that goes!!

Hodge, I know what you mean, think what Clough would say about AI?

Football analyst by a computer of information and stats that influence tactics of a team is the next big thing, top teams use it and it’s filtered down.

It is how ever still a simple game, over complicated by coaches who rely on stats and not their own instincts. That’s why they have only won the European Championship League by this approach, look at the many times they Man City have lost unexpectedly, when you see the quality of there players.

The human element of the game is still the essence of football and it will be poorer without it, look at the robotic, shackled displays by England, no individuality.

A quick little story about Clough; Kenny Burns (a striker who Clough made a great Central Defender) Clough wanted players to move it forward to feet quickly, Burns in one game passed it square and backwards a few times. After the team winning the game he got back to the dressing room and a white envelope was on his seat and inside an official typed letter telling him the Club had fined him for disobeying instructions.

Ball moved forward quickly to feet, that might get a player 30 goals a season if they also have a big pinch of composure in front of goal.

As for the rest of the team tackling as though your life depended on it and leaving everything on the pitch and giving that striker the opportunities.

How about taking what great managers have said about playing the game and having an AI manager?? Is that the future???

Don't EFL players who are being released remain with their club until July 1st? Is that the same in National League?

Transfer fees paid to EFL clubs, or, players released from National League North clubs? Which shop window will we be looking in?
