There's still 43 games to go!

There's still 43 games to go!

Postby Bryan » Tue Aug 18, 2009 9:45 pm

No one won jack sh*t in August. Yep it's not been good enough so far. But bloody hell...there's like 43 games of the season left!!! Some people seem to want us to struggle then they can have a good moan. What's the point of that?

I'll admit though it would be nice if the players could actually focus and concentrate from the first whistle. Pretty basic really. But we proved we could battle last season and so we will again. Er, Bradford and Darlo are below us too by the way.

Why some folk seem to think we're chucking the towel in already is beyond me. Lots to play for and we start again on Saturday. It's important the fans stick by the manager and players at this time. Even if things aren't going great at the moment.

A bit of self belief and we'll be up and running but it needs the fans to back the club all the way. The fans are the heartbeat of every club.

Players, yes. We have them for the season. Manager, no. He's easily dispensable. You're right that there are 43 more games BUT haven't we been here before?

Well said Bryan, we'll come good soon, just have been unlucky with defensive injuries/sickness,
a win on satd'y and we're mid-table ;)

More than harsh. I seem to remember not many of the current squad getting us to where we are. Yet the manager and other INDESPENSABLE figures at the club are still here. :?

Yes we have.

The season we got promoted we had a dodgy spell at the start, as we did last season, when we ended up achieving the highest position ever in our club's history.

That's not to say anyone is happy with the past couple of games, just that we don't need to panic.

I think the problem is that after Saturday's debacle, we were expecting a proper 'bounce back', what we got was 2 minutes before we conceded again and another defeat to another team who are expected to struggle. If the season is to be more than mid table, the players and management need to start getting it right very quickly. I don't for one moment think we will get relegated but my pre-season optimism hasn't lasted long.

I think in our first season in the league we drew the first game, beat Preston but lost to Wrexham, we didn't have a midweek game then beat Mansfield 3-1 at home. Maybe Macc will be this seasons Mansfield and we will kick on from there - ever the optimist ;)

Just got back and was going to post but i think sean is spot on with his assesment and has said everything i was going to say! I didn't think there was anything wrong with wilsons goal he was excellent tonight my man of the match he kept Adomah in his pocket most of the game and put some good balls into the box hes going to be a good player for us. We need a bit of luck at the moment hit the woodwork 3 times in 2 games if they go in both games change nothings falling for us at the moment we have a good squad and when it all clicks we may just have somthing special.

Oh, I'm not panicking, mainly because we have been here before. I certainly wouldn't advocate doing a Norwich City just yet. I was just thinking ahead. We may of course improve, which given the squad we have excluding strikers we damn well should. But IF we're in a similar position to last season come November then for me, given the squad at his disposal, that's when serious questions would need to be asked and action taken. However, I doubt we'll be in that kind of mess but then, with us you never know!

and we need some defenders we can hit the woodwork 10 times and eve score a couple of goals when it all clicks but as long as we are shipping goals in at the other end it wont make any difference.

Fair enough. And I'm sure even Sammy would accept that if we're still in the mire in a couple of months' time then questions WILL be asked and his position will come under serious scrutiny. He's an honest and intelligent bloke and won't try to make excuses.

As you say there is still alot of games to go. Someone i know plays for the scum( Stanley ) and he was saying that were not very good. But i did have to remind him that there is still 40 odd games to go.

Something i think that they need to work on is there concertration at the start of the game. Both games against Burton and Barnet have had very early goals. This could be down to lack of concertration or something else. But the team needs to have time to get into the game and conceeding and early goal will not help this at all.

.....and now every team will try to exploit this apparnet flaw in our make up, so the need for the utmost concentration is vital. Nobody outside of the dressing room knows what happens in the minutes leading up to KO, but I wonder if the guys heads are so full of info that they can't comprehend it all and as a result their concentration levels are all over the place?

Isn't this were the sports psychologists have a major influence?

Take the Preston result out, which was a result against a team of much higher quality that we play week in, week out, and we wouldn't be panicking anywhere near as much. Personally I think that result is irrelevent.

To suggest our players tiny little minds can't cope at the start of the match because of all the instructions, especially when we've conceded two early goals in two whole matches is over analysing the situation and coming up with ridiculous conclusion.
